A DREAM REMEMBERED

In Genesis 42v9 we read about Joseph remembering the dream he had as a youth. A dream in which his brothers bowed down to him. It's interesting to note the words, then he remembered his dreams…In other words that thing that God promised all those years before, this is it, the promise was suddenly brought back to mind.  To remember meant that Joseph hadn't been living with a crystal clear image of what that the dream fulfilled would actually look. It wasn’t the power of remembering his dreams that pulled him through years of contradictory circumstances. It wasn’t the hope created by the certainty of “one day I’ll be vindicated, or reunited”. To remember his dreams meant he had forgotten them. His strength, vitalitity and courage wasn’t derived from the promise the dreams contained, nor in the specifics of how it might be fulfilled, but rather his source of hope, and strength must have been his relationship with the one who gave the dream.

Because Joseph had forfotten the dreams it is clear he wasn’t proactively planning. This moment before his brothers wasn’t the fruit of his wisdom and planning. Indeed his circumstances totally prophibited proactive planning. He couldn’t elevate himself from the context of a dungeon. He couldn’t bring his brothers to him. He couldn’t liberate himself. The fulfillment of his dreams was beyond his asking and his imagining.

The Father gives us dreams, but heavens dreams are beyound our ability to plan and strategise. He gives us a sense of who we are and what is possible for heaven to do in and through us, but we never really see the whole picture, or the how the dream might be fully fulfilled. God’s wisdom is so beyond our logic, he surprises us, we are left startled, “I could never have imaged that is what the dream fulfilled would look like” or, “I never thought He would take that route to get here”

The prophetic word from God shows us His His view point and assessment. How God sees us and our circumstances always creates a tension between todays circumstanes and the promise of tomorrow. Faith, and trust in His kindness and faithfulness keeps your heart soft and connected to Father in the midst of the unplanned pace and place. In the midst of huge contradictions Joesph had forgotten his dreams from God, but he hadn’t forgotten God. But in this moment before His brothers he remembered. It was a moment of God’s disclosure, God’s redemptive hand was revealed. God had been working all along. He had taken wicked, evil jealous actions that had thrown Joseph into a dungeon and had redeemed the whole thing. God is the agent of glorious redemption. God had worked everything together for good.

Dreams from God give us a hint of what’s to come, but when God reveals the how and the fulfillment they are always bigger, bolder and brighter. To follow God only works as we become childlike, embracing mystery, tension and being content. Knowing that heaven’s wisdom is at work. That God has the capacity to work this out excellently, creatively and according to holy integrity.

But in the midst of huge obstacles Jospeh wasn’t a passive victim. Whilst he may had forgotten the specifics of a dream, he hadn’t dismissed what the dream revealed about him. That he was a man who belonged to God, and God hadn't forgotten Him.  He stewarded that calling in every and any circumstance. Whatever the context he served with great dignity, wisdom and courage. It was the way he stewarded his inner world that set him up for the dreams greater fulfillment. He stewarded well what was in front of him, even if it wasn't humanly possible to see  beyond the clutter of being sold in to slavery, false accusation, and imprisonment.   All this moment by moment obedience was empowered through his connection to God and his faithfulness. Joseph's obedience, his long walk in the same direction underpinned the moment of remembering what God had all along promised.

Planning your Visit

New to Church?

Welcome! Whether you've just moved to the area, or have lived here all your life, we hope our website helps you to find out everything you want to know about our Church.

Some key information about the church...

Where & when does the church meet?

The church meets every Sunday at 11:00 am for our Sunday Service. There is plenty of free parking around the CCK building. We are walking distance from Plumstead Train station and local buses. It’s good to get to the meeting 15 minutes early to enjoy a fresh cup of coffee before the service starts.

We meet at the church building in the middle of Plumstead

The address is:

46 Lakedale Road
Plumstead
London
SE18 1PS

You can see a map on our contact us page.

What should I expect when I visit the church?

You will receive a very warm welcome particularly from our Welcome Team who will be able to answer your questions and direct you to where you need to go.

Sunday is special because it’s the main opportunity in the week for the whole church family to gather, worship God, enjoy his manifest presence together, minister to one-another, receive encouragement and exhortation from God’s word and be refreshed by God’s Spirit and one-another’s friendship and support.

There will be approximately 45 mins of singing with opportunity for church members to pray, prophesy or read a passage from the bible. After the notices there will be a preach, we take time to understand the bible’s message and how this can teach us about God, about ourselves, about the world that we live in and about what authentic Christian lifestyle looks like in practice. At the end of the preach there is always a chance to respond.

Tea, coffee and biscuits are served after the service where there is plenty of time to meet new people and ask more questions.

What happens to the kids at church?

As a family church we are thrilled to have people of all ages involved in our Sunday morning meetings. Typically, after worshiping together for 30 minutes or so, the children and young people will leave for their own activities.

We have a fantastic programme for the kids at the Church for ages 0–14. Children stay with their parents at the start of the service as we worship (sing songs!) together for the first part of the morning. Someone will announce when the children need to go to their programme.

For more information about what happens in the children's work please visit the relevant age groups for you under church life.

Is there a dress code?

No! Please just be yourself and come dressed in your 'normal' clothes.

Will I have to join in?

Not at all!
You are free to simply observe or participate as much as feels comfortable for you.
